ARTIST BRIEF

Explore heritage design with a fresh perspective, experimenting with color, mediums, and pattern mixing across cultures and time periods.

Focus on geometric patterning rooted in traditional craft (weaving, hand-painted tiles, marquetry, block printing, fabric painting, crochet, mosaic, hand-dyeing, relief printing).

CONCEPT

  • Play with mixed scale and bold crops.

  • Experiment with combining art techniques.

  • Pair geos from different eras, cultures and art movements.

  • Partner new palettes with monochromatic or single color patterning.

  • Ground more complex geos with simpler patterning or borders.

  • Infuse artwork with blurring, distressed effects, and texture to highlight craft inspiration.

  • Mimic pre-industrial techniques through irregular color, imperfect repeats, and patchwork styling.

  • Modernize heirloom craft with unexpected palettes, digital applications, and mixing historical pattern references.
