ARTIST BRIEF

Develop artwork with a merchant’s eye, giving thought to coordinating patterns, unique but considered color pairings, unexpected plays on scale, and the mixing of art styles.

Tap into the consumer’s affection for the past while offering an updated twist to classic pattern, color, design, and iconography.

CONCEPT

  • Have fun with color—partner black and white (or off-white) with other palettes for dramatic effect, or give patriotic color an new twist by pairing with candy or earthy shades.

  • Animal skins offer an opportunity to explore neutral and rich color.

  • Experiment with stripes, from classic Brenton to windowpane.

  • Bold geos (popular in the 60s) may be explored, but should not be the main focus.

  • Play with filters, transparencies, layering, digital photography manipulation and approaching art creation with spot color print methods such as screen printing and riso in mind.

  • Get inspired by Godard’s block editing and play with new ideas in color blocking.

  • Classic men’s suiting patterns, iconography, figurative and lettering may also be explored.
